What is the best location to place a range extender?

Placement

Always remember that there is no one ‘best’ location in your home or office. Therefore always try several locations to determine where the range extender functions best.

In general, however, a central place in your home or office is preferred, because the range extender is then equally distant from every point. Naturally this depends on the circumstances. If you cannot establish a good connection between your router (or modem router) and range extender in the middle of your home, the distance must be reduced.

Please note: It is important to place the range extender in a location where there is still a good signal. The will allow the range extender to pick up and amplify the existing signal.

Obstruction

Many things can disrupt a Wi-Fi signal. Iron or steel walls and ceilings, for example, can partially or completely block your signal. Metal cabinets, stoves and tables also have a negative effect. The effect of obstruction is often worse near the floor. Try to place your range extender as high as possible.

Interference

A range extender transmits on unlicensed frequencies. Depending on the model type (single band or dual band), a range extender operates in the 2.4 GHz (single band) or 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (dual band) frequency spectrums. The 2.4 GHz frequency, however, is used by many devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors. If multiple devices transmit on this frequency at the same time, this may result in interference between the signals. This can cause of loss of quality. So do not place your range extender near these kinds of electrical appliances.

Use the LEDs for optimal positioning

The range extender has LEDs that can help you determine the best position for the range extender.

The orange LED indicates the quality of the Wi-Fi signal the WLX-2003 range extender is receiving from your router:

•    The orange LED is lit continuously: the quality of the Wi-Fi signal is good (50-100%).
•    The orange LED is flashing slowly (1 second on / 1 second off): the quality of the Wi-Fi signal is not optimal (25-50%). Place the range extender closer to your (modem) router and check the LED.
•    The orange LED is flashing quickly (¼ second on / ¼ second off): the quality of the Wi-Fi signal is poor (0-25%).  Place the range extender closer to your (modem) router and check the LED.
